Gary Barber

Description

I'm going with a human ancestral barbarian, Gary Barber, who fled from his village because he wouldn't join the army. Well, not exactly, he was lovingly shoved out the door, his mothers' tears soaking through the hay floor, as she wished her baby luck on his adventures.

See, unlike many young men in the scrappy and cut throat frontier village of Newfoundland, Gary had grown up with the art, literature, and poetry of his mother, rarely exposed to the training and harshness of his father. Toiling dawn to dusk on the family farm and sparring with his brothers, Gary grew to a stature respectable for his proud family lineage. The Barbers were but one of many battle-experienced families seeking out the frontier, and for ten generations the men took up the mighty axe as barbarians. The youngest of five boys, Gary was doted upon until at last, at the age of 18, the army recruiters came knocking for him.

Unable to see her baby off to the brutality of the front lines, Gary's mother convinced the guards that her son was soon to be employed by the leading adventurer's guild, Guild of Adventurers, stationed in the capital. Gary left under the cover of darkness toward his new fate, and escaped from the sacrificial legions of the army.

Gimmicks: Gary is a barbarian using a sword and shield to start, not only fearing the axe, but never receiving his father's blessing as a worthy barbarian. Unlike his family, Gary is reserved and treads carefully, using his strength once he feels all options have been exhausted.

Gary will accept an axe as his weapon at some point in the journey, perhaps you can let him encounter it once he's grown into a more confident warrior.

The rage mechanic will be very unique for Gary, where it becomes couRAGE. The timid Gary is overtaken by courage, becoming what seems to be another person as he calls out to his allies for strength and perseverance, and cuts down his foes without hesitation. He is not aware of what happens once his couRAGE dissipates. One day, when Gary becomes a seasoned adventurer near level 20, and the rage mechanic becomes unlimited, Gary comes full circle and completes his transformation into a brave and fearless warrior.
